Review the Doctrine of Christ  (2 NEPHI 13)

Book of Mormon is the new Covenant:

Jesus was the mediator of the new covenant.  Word made flesh.

DC 83:8b And this condemnation resteth upon the children of Zion, even all; and they shall remain under this condemnation until they repent and remember the new covenant, even the Book of Mormon and the former commandments which I have given them, not only to say, but to do according to that which I have written,

Why:  1:9-12  so that Lamanites may come to a knowledge of the truth.  (one of the three major purposes)

Verse 17—Great things written by which his people will be judged.  (xref 3n 13:1-5; 2n11:30-34)

Words of Mormon 1:17 And I know that they will be preserved: for there are great things written upon them, out of which my people and their brethren, shall be judged at the great and last day, according to the word of God which is written.

1 Nephi 3:115 And he said unto me, Thou remembereth the twelve apostles of the Lamb? Behold they are they who shall judge the twelve tribes of Israel:

1 Nephi 3:116 Wherefore, the twelve ministers of thy seed shall be judged of them; for ye are of the house of Israel; and these twelve ministers whom thou beholdest, shall judge thy seed.

Mormon 1:83 Yea, behold, I write unto all the ends of the earth; yea, unto you, twelve tribes of Israel, who shall be judged according to your works, by the twelve whom Jesus chose to be his disciples in the land of Jerusalem.

Mormon 1:84 And I write also unto the remnant of this people, who shall also be judged by the twelve whom Jesus chose in this land; and they shall be judged by the other twelve whom Jesus chose in the land of Jerusalem.
