How do we get a remission of sin?

Definition of Remission from Strongs #859:

Aphesis (af’-es-is) Freedom; pardon:--deliverance, forgiveness, liberty, remission.

How Does scripture teach remission of sin?  We commonly teach that we must be baptized to receive a remission of sin, after all, Acts 2:38 states it clearly: '..be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins..'

But it this all?  How does Jesus' death account for our sins being remitted?  What then, brings remission?  Let's take an exhaustive look at what the three books teach regarding how we receive a 'remission of sin.'

Matthew 5:4 Yea, blessed are they who shall believe on your words, and come down into the depth of humility, and be baptized in my name; for they shall be visited with fire and the Holy Ghost, and shall receive a remission of their sins. Belief, Repentance, Baptism

Hebrews 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. Jesus shed blood
2 Nephi 11:48 And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophecy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins. Jesus will bring remission, not Law of Moses
2 Nephi 13:24 For the gate by which ye should enter is repentance and baptism by water: and then cometh a remission of your sins by fire, and by the Holy Ghost. Repentance, Baptism for Remission
Mosiah 1:109 And the Lord God hath sent his holy prophets among all the children of men to declare these things to every kindred, nation, and tongue, that thereby whosoever should believe that Christ should come, the same might receive remission of their sins, and rejoice with exceedingly great joy, even as though he had already come among them. Believe that Christ will come
Mosiah 2:6 Having received a remission of their sins, and having peace of conscience, because of the exceeding faith which they had in Jesus Christ who should come, according to the words which King Benjamin had spoken unto them. Through Faith
Mosiah 2:22 And behold, I say unto you, that if ye do this, ye shall always rejoice, and be filled with the love of God, and always retain a remission of your sins; (read in context) Keeping the commandments
Mosiah 2:42 And now, for the sake of these things which I have spoken unto you; that is, for the sake of retaining a remission of your sins from day to day, that ye may walk guiltless before God, Keeping the commandments
Alma 2:20 Now this was a great cause for lamentations among the people, while others were abasing themselves, succoring those who stood in need of their succor, such as imparting their substance to the poor and the needy; feeding the hungry; and suffering all manner of afflictions, for Christ's sake, who should come according to the spirit of prophecy, looking forward to that day, thus retaining a remission of their sins; Through love, charity, Keeping the commandments
Alma 9:55 Therefore, whosoever repenteth, and hardeneth not his heart, he shall have claim on mercy through mine only begotten Son, unto a remission of his sins; and these shall enter into my rest. Through repentance will be able to claim mercy
Alma 10:10 And this, that they might look forward to him for a remission of their sins, that they might enter into the rest of the Lord. Through Faith
Alma 18:9 And it came to pass that I was three days and three nights in the most biter pain and anguish of soul: and never, until I did cry out unto the Lord Jesus Christ for mercy, did I receive a remission of my sins. Repenting and crying unto the Lord (this no doubt occurred after his former baptism)
Helaman 5:67 And if ye believe on his name, ye will repent of all your sins, that thereby ye may have a remission of them through his merits. If believe, then will Repent and receive a remission
3 Nephi 1:27 And it came to pass that Nephi went forth among the people, and also many others, baptizing unto repentance, in the which, there were a great remission of sins. Baptism unto Repentance
3 Nephi 3:67 And Nephi did cry unto the people in the commencement of the thirty and third year; and he did preach unto them repentance and remission of sins. Repentance (text goes on to say that all who repented were baptized)
3 Nephi 3:69 Therefore there were ordained of Nephi, men unto this ministry, that all such as should come unto them, should be baptized with water, and this as a witness and a testimony before God, and unto the people, that they had repented and received a remission of their sins. Implies that remission occurred from ones repentance
3 Nephi 5:49 Yea, blessed are they who shall believe in your words, and come down into the depths of humility, and be baptized; for they shall be visited with fire and with the Holy Ghost, and shall receive a remission of their sins. Humility and receiving the Holy Ghost
3 Nephi 14:3 And come unto me, and be baptized in my name, that ye may receive a remission of your sins, and be filled with the Holy Ghost, that ye may be numbered with my people, who are of the house of Israel. Come unto Jesus, be baptized and receive a remission
Moroni 8:12 Behold, baptism is unto repentance to the fulfilling the commandments unto the remission of sins. Baptism, Repentance
(regarding the requirement to turn from sin prior to baptism);

DC 17:7d and truly manifest by their works that they have received of the Spirit of Christ unto the remission of their sins, shall be received by baptism into his church.

By turning from sin and receiving the Spirit of Christ, then baptism
DC 19:3a For, behold, I will bless all those who labor in my vineyard, with a mighty blessing, and they shall believe on his words, which are given him through me, by the Comforter, which manifesteth that Jesus was crucified by sinful men for the sins of the world; yea, for the remission of sins unto the contrite heart. To those who are contrite
DC 26:1c remembering unto the Father my body which was laid down for you, and my blood which was shed for the remission of your sins; Jesus' shed blood.
DC 32:2g yea, repent and be baptized every one of you, for the remission of your sins; yea, be baptized even by water, and then cometh the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost. Baptism for remission
DC 49:2g Believe on the name of the Lord Jesus, who was on the earth, and is to come, the beginning and the end; repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, according to the holy commandment, for the remission of sins; Believe, repent, be baptized
DC 55:1b You are called and chosen, and after you have been baptized by water, which if you do with an eye single to my glory, you shall have a remission of your sins, and a reception of the Holy Spirit, by the laying on of hands. If baptism is done with an eye single to God's glory.
DC 83:12a Verily, verily, I say unto you, They who believe not on your words, and are not baptized in water, in my name, for the remission of their sins, that they may receive the Holy Ghost, shall be damned, and shall not come into my Father's kingdom, where my Father and I am. Those who reject baptism and do not get the Holy Ghost can not return to God's presence.
Moroni 8:29 And the first--fruits of repentance is baptism; and baptism cometh by faith, unto the fulfilling the commandments; and the fulfilling the commandments bringeth remission of sins; and the remission of sins bringeth meekness, and lowliness of heart; and because of meekness and lowliness of heart, cometh the visitation of the Holy Ghost, which Comforter filleth with hope and perfect love, which love endureth by diligence unto prayer, until the end shall come, when all the saints shall dwell with God. Faith leads to repentance, leads to baptism, which keeps the commandments. This brings a remission of sin, which brings meekness, lowliness which brings the Holy Ghost.
And to culminate the entire thought:

Moroni 10:30 And again, if ye, by the grace of God, are perfect in Christ, and deny not his power, then are ye sanctified in Christ by the grace of God, through the shedding of the blood of Christ, which is in the covenant of the Father, unto the remission of your sins, that ye become holy without spot.

If we follow the doctrine of Christ, we will be sanctified because of the shed blood of Jesus, which is the COVENANT by which our sins shall be remitted.  Following this covenant is the ONLY way we can be Holy and without spot.

What is the Doctrine of Christ?  Faith in Jesus Atonement, Repentance from Sin, Baptism by Water and the Holy Ghost, Walking in newness of life keeping the commandments and enduring to the end, final judgment and life with God.
