So, what did Jesus actually Teach in His own words?

So much of what Christians read today is what someone today 'thinks' Paul meant about what Jesus said/did/meant 2000 years ago.  When we strip away the interpretations and embellishments of man, what is it that Jesus actually taught?

What was His doctrine as is was presented in the gospels?  This class will look at the account of Matthew and simply attempt to categorize what Jesus actually said.

The real message of Jesus astonished the people of His day.  And it just may not be what you are hearing on the radio...

Did the people of Jesus day simply categorically accept everything Jesus taught them?

Matthew 7:36 And it came to pass when Jesus had ended these sayings with his disciples, the people were astonished at his doctrine;

Matthew 22:32 And when the multitude heard him, they were astonished at his doctrine.

Jesus Taught...

Believe Matthew 5:3 Blessed are they who shall believe on me;
Repent Matthew 4:16 From that time, Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Baptized Matthew 5:4 Yea, blessed are they who shall believe on your words, and come down into the depth of humility, and be baptized in my name; for they shall be visited with fire and the Holy Ghost, and shall receive a remission of their sins.
Come in Humility
Receive Holy Ghost, and
Will Receive Remission of sins
Not to suffer evil thoughts Matthew 5:30 But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her, hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Matthew 5:31 Behold, I give unto you a commandment, that ye suffer none of these things to enter into your heart, for it is better that ye should deny yourselves of these things, wherein ye will take up your cross, than that ye should be cast into hell.
Don't seek things of this world Matthew 6:38 Wherefore, seek not the things of this world but seek ye first to build up the kingdom of God, and to establish his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.
Must Do Heavenly Father's Will Matthew 7:30 Verily I say unto you, it is not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, that shall enter unto the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven.
Will be Judged by our Works Matthew 7:31 For the day soon cometh, that men shall come before me to judgment, to be judged according to their works.
Must hear AND DO His will. Matthew 7:35 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand; and the rains descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house, and it fell; and great was the fall of it.
Few Find the narrow way that leads to life. Matthew 7:23 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way that leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Baptism was occurring BEFORE Jesus, and, Only New baptism unto the New covenant Has Validity. Matthew 9:18 Then said the Pharisees unto him, Why will ye not receive us with our baptism, seeing we keep the whole law?19 But Jesus said unto them, Ye keep not the law. If ye had kept the law, ye would have received me, for I am he who gave the law. 20 I receive not you with your baptism, because it profiteth you nothing. 21 For when that which is new is come, the old is ready to be put away.

Sin forgiven when we receive Jesus and Repent. Matthew 12:26 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men who receive me and repent; but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven unto men.
Will be judged by Idle Words. Matthew 12:31 And again I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
By words justified; by works condemned. Matthew 12:32 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
Continuing to receive God's word brings more; rejecting what's given brings blindness. Matthew 13:11 But whosoever continueth not to receive, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.
Matthew 13:12 Therefore speak I to them in parables; because they, seeing, see not; and hearing, they hear not; neither do they understand.
Evil comes from within, not without. Matthew 15:18 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.
Matthew 15:19 These are things which defile a man. But to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.
False Doctrines of Man will exist. Matthew 16:13 Then understand they, how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
Jesus' Gospel will minister to spiritual prisoners in Hell--Satan can't keep it out. Matthew 16:19 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it
To Follow Jesus means to 'Take up ones Cross' which means to deny ungodliness in one's life and keep Jesus' commandments. Matthew 16:25 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me.
Matthew 16:26 And now for a man to take up his cross, is to deny himself all ungodliness, and every worldly lust, and keep my commandments.
Matthew 16:27 Break not my commandments for to save your lives; for whosoever will save his life in this world, shall lose it in the world to come.
Every one will be rewarded according to his/her works. Matthew 16:30 For the Son of Man shall come in the glory of his Father, with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
Spiritual power comes in proportion to prayer and fasting. Matthew 17:18 And Jesus rebuked the devil, and he departed out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour. 19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? 20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief; for, verily, I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove to yonder place, and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. 21 Howbeit, this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

Jesus came to call sinners to repentance; children have no need of repentance. Matthew 18:11 For the Son of Man is come to save that which was lost, and to call sinners to repentance; but these little ones have no need of repentance, and I will save them.
We must forgive, or receive 'Justice' i.e. punishment for our sin. Matthew 18:33 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.
Matthew 18:34 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.
We must keep the commandments to enter into Eternal Life; however we must understand what they point toward... Matthew 19:17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, that is, God; but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments....Matthew 19:21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go, sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven, and come and follow me.
We must be willing to forsake all to follow Jesus. Matthew 19:29 And every one that has forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive a hundred-fold, and shall inherit everlasting life.
First will be last..last first. Matthew 19:30 But many of the first shall be last, and the last first.
We will receive that which we pray in faith. Matthew 21:20 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, in faith believing, ye shall receive.
We can't 'believe' in Jesus unless we repent. Matthew 21:33 For he that believed not John concerning me, cannot believe me, except he first repent.
Kingdom gospel authority would be taken from the Jews, to the Gentiles, then back to others of the covenant before Jesus returns. Matthew 21:45 Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof...55 And when the Lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, he will destroy those miserable, wicked men, and will let again his vineyard unto other husbandmen, even in the last days, who shall render him the fruits in their seasons. 56 And then understood they the parable which he spake unto them, that the Gentiles should be destroyed also, when the Lord should descend out of heaven to reign in his vineyard, which is the earth and the inhabitants thereof.
Do not marry in the Resurrection--this is a type for us to understand the upcoming  marriage between Christ and the church Matthew 22:28 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God.
Matthew 22:29 For in the resurrection, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angel of God in heaven.
